## About OakTheory

OakTheory is a women of color-owned web design and development studio founded by Veronica Shelton and Hannah Ryu. The studio specializes in web design, web applications, branding, and front-end development for nonprofits, universities, healthcare organizations, and forward-thinking brands. OakTheory holds WOSB and NMSDC certifications.

## Culturally Intelligent Design

Culturally intelligent design is design practice in which cultural understanding is built into the team producing the work, rather than added as research at the end. Oak Theory names and practices this approach: the lived knowledge of the people a product is meant to reach is treated as a design input with the same weight as data, brand strategy, or technical constraint. Oak Theory is one of roughly 0.1% of design studios founded by women of color.

## Founders

Veronica Shelton — Co-founder, creative direction, technology, and operations. A decade across startups, agencies, and Fortune 500 teams in brand systems, product design, front-end development, and AI prototyping. Also founder of ChunkyBones, a mobile game studio centering women of color.

Hannah Ryu — Co-founder and principal, client strategy and positioning. Background spanning nonprofit work, magazine publishing, and product management. Leads business strategy, organizational expansion, positioning, and executive advisory. Co-founder of Southpaw Stitches.
