About

A new gateway to one of the world's most dynamic cities.

As a New York City-based agency, Oak Theory was excited to be shortlisted to design the brand identity for JFK Terminal 6, a new gateway to one of the world's most dynamic cities. The brief was to create a visual identity that captured New York's vibrancy, ambition, and welcoming spirit, positioning T6 as a major hub for international travelers.

As a trusted brand identity agency, Oak Theory understood how to channel the city's unique energy into a globally resonant brand identity — and created options that truly connect.

The challenge

A blank canvas — bold creativity, held to the functional demands of an airport.

The task was clear: deliver a logo design appropriate for the transportation industry that embodied the essence of New York while seamlessly fitting into the various physical and digital environments it would inhabit.

The project required starting with a blank canvas, pushing the boundaries of traditional transport logo design to visually match the innovation of the new Terminal 6. Oak Theory needed to strike a balance between bold creativity and the functionality required for such an iconic space, ensuring the logo could integrate smoothly with other transportation industry logos while maintaining a distinct identity.

Our Approach

01

Six concepts, because the direction was still open.

As the JFK team wasn't entirely set on the creative direction they wanted to follow, Oak Theory understood the importance of offering diverse options — especially in the early stages of the process.

We approached the project by developing six logo concepts that seamlessly merged conceptual creativity with practical functionality, each balancing New York's cultural essence with the needs of a global transportation hub. By focusing on both clarity and creative expression, we delivered a dynamic logo system that could evolve with Terminal 6 as its partnerships expanded.

02

A versatile transport logo, built for signage and screens.

Each concept had to be adaptable for both digital and physical signage throughout the terminal — legible at the scale of a facade and at the scale of a boarding pass.

The dot system that emerged could act as a container for photography, text, and custom iconography, keeping wayfinding icons effortlessly on-brand while subtly reinforcing the terminal's identity to travelers.

03

Iconic identity drawn from the city itself.

We drew inspiration from New York's skyline and architecture, infusing our designs with the cultural energy that defines the city. The result positioned Terminal 6 as a natural extension of New York's identity rather than a generic aviation mark.

From minimalist to bold, expressive logos, the designs needed to speak to both local and international travelers — and to hold up across the range of brand identity applications an airport demands.

04

A collaborative process with JFK's branding team.

Throughout the project, Oak Theory worked closely with JFK's Terminal 6 team, ensuring the designs met their evolving vision. We refined the logo concepts based on feedback at each round.

The goal was to offer the client brand identity options built to stand the test of time and give travelers a seamless New York experience from the moment they entered the terminal.
